Days to Christmas {Free Countdown Printables}

I know it's not Christmas yet. Forgive me for posting these before Thanksgiving (gasp.) I know. But I wanted to give you time to print and frame them before December 1st rolls around.

How to use the free countdown printables: print them (at a photo center or at home or at a copy center)

Frame and write the days to Christmas directly on the glass (with a dry erase marker.)
OR
you can also just put them in a plastic page protector and write directly on that as well.

Either way, I hope you enjoy them :)

All the countdowns are 8x10.

When we put God first...

This has been one of my all time favorite quotes. It was my mantra throughout college and I still find my mind wanders to it without me even realizing it (does that make sense?!). I love it!

When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.

There is but one plan of happiness...

If it's not obvious- I just loved this talk from General Conference!

President Eyring said the following:
Heavenly Father has made each of us unique.
No two of us have exactly the same experiences. No two families are alike.
So it is not surprising that advice
about how to choose happiness in family life is hard to give.

A loving Heavenly Father has set the same path to happiness for all of His children. Whatever our personal characteristics or whatever will be our experiences, there is but one plan of happiness. That plan is to follow all the commandments of God. -President Henry B. Eyring

Could and Would

A little back story for this quote. President Eyring shared at general conference:
Image Map

Years ago a friend of mine spoke of his grandmother. She had lived a full life, always faithful to the Lord and to His Church. Yet one of her grandsons chose a life of crime. He was finally sentenced to prison. My friend recalled that his grandmother, as she drove along a highway to visit her grandson in prison, had tears in her eyes as she prayed with anguish, “I’ve tried to live a good life. Why, why do I have this tragedy of a grandson who seems to have destroyed his life?”

The answer came to her mind in these words:

There is a wonderful lesson for us all. The way for loving parents and grandparents and all of God’s servants will not be easy in a decaying world. We cannot force God’s children to choose the way to happiness. God cannot do that because of the agency He has given us.

God has devised means to save each of His children. For many, that involves being placed with a brother or a sister or a grandparent who loves them no matter what they do.

{His Angels have charge concerning us}

President Henry B. Eyring said this regarding the following quote: God has prepared you and me and our children for the tests we will face:

{5x7 Print}

There is not one of us but what God’s love has been expended upon. There is not one of us that He has not cared for and caressed. There is not one of us that He has not desired to save, and that He has not devised means to save. There is not one of us that He has not given His angels charge concerning. We may be insignificant and contemptible in our own eyes, and in the eyes of others, but the truth remains that we are the children of God, and that He has actually given His angels—invisible beings of power and might—charge concerning us, and they watch over us and have us in their keeping.

How about a Halloween Countdown Printable?

or two?

I love Halloween!  So- how I would suggest using these countdown freebies- put them in a cute frame and with a dry erase marker, you can write on the glass the number of days left on the pumpkin or the box (depending on which countdown you use). Dry erase markers work great on glass!

We are all needed....

The Lord did not people the earth with a vibrant orchestra of personalities only to value the piccolos of the world. Every instrument is precious and adds to the complex beauty of the symphony. All of Heavenly Father’s children are different in some degree, yet each has his own beautiful sound that adds depth and richness to the whole.

Create...

The more you trust and rely upon the Spirit, the greater your capacity to create.

You may think you don’t have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us.  The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano. Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter.

What you create doesn’t have to be perfect.  Don’t let fear of failure discourage you. Don’t let the voice of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside.

-Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Let them be little...

I know we as parents hear this a lot, but isn't it the truth: kids grow up so fast. They are only little once.  I don't know about any of you out there, but there sure is a lot of pressure to quickly raise your child infant into a pint size adult and stat!  Don't get me wrong- I look forward to seeing my children be self sufficient and be able to take care of themselves.  I especially appreciate their independence when I am in a rush to get out the door and need them to get dressed and ready so I can get the little other little one ready. But sometimes- like when I am looking back through scrapbooks at baby pictures- I realize just how quickly time has gone by and why oh why is there such a rush to make my children grow up  faster then they have to?  They only get to be little once so this is a reminder for me to be a bit more patient. To tie shoes when they ask me to. To let them play a little longer and be sillier a little more.  Maybe it's a reminder for you too!

Please like me on fb and follow along on google friend connect. I work really hard on each and every one of my freebies and appreciate your support :) Plus- you will be the first to see my designs. Score! Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

He loves you.

Perhaps you might think that you are overlooked, or unwanted, that you are nobody. Certainly you are not overlooked or unwanted by your Heavenly Father. He loves you!

In our house...

we do make-believe.
we daydream.
we play dress-up.
we create. we pretend.
we imagine.
we believe in heroes and princesses.
we tell stories.
we make messes.
we laugh. we love.

Lately I have been thinking a lot about our  new house...and not just how I want to decorate it :) I have been thinking about the kind of home I want to create for my little family and at the top of that list is a home full of dreams, where anything is possible. My little guy asked me the other day if he thought humans might ever be able to fly.  Isn't that cool his little mind wants to believe in that?  I love it!  I want my children to believe in magic and fairy tales and happy endings for as long as possible.

How do I print free printables?

Well, it's rather easy!

Image Map

There are 3 different ways you can print them.

1- At a photo center (such as Costco, Walgreens, Walmart etc. I personally use Costco.)
Tip: This is a very easy way to print. Simply upload your printable to the photo website (the same way you would upload the pictures off your camera), select the correct size for the highest quality & to ensure nothing gets cropped off (I always  try to specify the size of my printables, 4x6, 5x7 etc). I also recommend the luster finish.
2- At a copy center (such as Alphagraphics, Kinkos etc. I personally use Alphagraphics.)
Tip:  Most copy stores require your printable format to be a pdf.   Some stores can convert a jpg to a pdf for you, but most will not, so call ahead first and find out. If you google jpg to pdf converter, many come up. I've never used any of them, so I can't personally endorse them. If there is a demand for my printables in pdf format, leave me a comment and I will also create a download link for a pdf.  I recommend glossy text 50lb, 80lb or cardstock paper when printing at a copy center. Use a thumb/flash drive to store your printable on and your copy center can access it from there.
3- At home
Tip:  I really like to print on presentation paper in glossy finish. It is very similar to the glossy text paper the copy centers use.  You can also use glossy or matte photo paper or cardstock if you need a thicker/heavier paper & most dollar stores sell the matte photo paper for only $1!  You can find glossy presentation paper at most office supply stores (such as Office Depot, Office Max etc.)  I have a regular ink jet printer and my office supply store only sells  presentation paper for laser printers. It works just fine on my ink jet, so don't let that stop you.   When printing at home, remember to adjust your printer settings for the best quality!

My printer settings look like this:
You will be very impressed with the results. Just be sure to let the ink dry before handling the paper.

If you have any other questions, let me know in the comments and I will try to answer them.

You are a child of God

Several years ago I served in Activity Days (one of the best and funnest callings ever!) I found this quote and fell in love with it. I made one for each of my girls.  I came across the original a few weeks ago and knew I needed to update and share. Hope you like it :)

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?  Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
-Marianne Williamson

It all works out...

This was my favorite quote throughout high school. I just love it.

It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. … If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.

Family Reunion Subway Art

This year it was me & the husband's turn to plan the family reunion. We had such a wonderful time. It started with a stay at Zermatt in Midway, Utah. We swam, played games, ate pizza from The Store.  The next day we hiked Ensign Peak (so fun- a great hike for all ages!), ate lunch at City Creek Center food court, toured The Beehive House and played at the Church History Museum. I'm worn out just typing it! It was a lot of fun though! We asked each family to come prepared with what it means to be a Burton. Some were silly, some thoughtful. But all together it summed up nicely what it means to be a part of this wonderful family.

Of course, I had to do my thing and turn it in to something frameable. I want my kids to see this (and me, too) and reflect regularly on who we are trying to be :)

I did forget to add one very important thing: if your going to play, play fast :)
I will have to add that on later maybe.

End of the year gift idea

I made these little thank you's for all the school personal who helped out my little guy this year.  We moved just 2 1/2 weeks before school started, so he was the brand new kid.  I wanted to show my appreciation for everyone at his new school who helped during those first few months.  I included a gift card to In & Out along with it and just printed out my little saying above and taped it over the gift card.
